Why UK organisations are moving to Azure now

Most migrations we're asked about are triggered by one of four things.

End of support

SQL Server 2016 left support in July 2026 and Windows Server 2016 follows in January 2027. Moving them to Azure gives you security updates for longer, while you modernise.

VMware licensing

Since Broadcom's acquisition, many organisations face much higher VMware renewals. Azure gives you a way out, either lift-and-shift or Azure VMware Solution.

Hardware & data centre

A server refresh, a co-location contract ending or an office move is the natural moment to stop owning hardware.

Cost & resilience

Pay for what you use, back up and fail over across UK regions, and stop budgeting for the next big hardware purchase.

How an Azure migration works

A typical small-to-mid-sized migration takes 6–16 weeks from assessment to go-live.

  1. Free assessment

Two minutes online, then a 30-minute call. We scope what you have and what's driving the move.

  2. Discovery & costing

Azure Migrate maps your servers, dependencies and right-sized Azure costs. You get a fixed-scope proposal.

  3. Landing zone

We build a secure Azure foundation covering identity, networking, policy, backup and cost controls before anything moves.

  4. Migrate in waves

Workloads move in tested waves with rollback plans, usually out of hours, so users barely notice.

  5. Optimise

Right-sizing, reservations and Azure Hybrid Benefit keep the monthly bill under control after go-live.

What's in the free assessment

No sales deck. You get a short, practical read-out you can use whether or not you work with us.

  • A view of what should move, what should be modernised and what should be retired
  • A ballpark one-off migration cost and estimated monthly Azure run cost
  • Whether you're likely to qualify for Microsoft's Azure Accelerate funding
  • End-of-support and licensing risks (Windows Server, SQL Server, VMware)
  • A realistic timeline and the biggest risks to plan around

About ComputeCloud

ComputeCloud is a UK Azure migration service. It helps organisations move servers, SQL Server databases, VMware environments and whole data centres to Microsoft Azure. Every engagement starts with a free assessment that sets out what should move, roughly what it will cost to migrate and to run, and whether Microsoft funding is available. Workloads then move in planned, tested waves onto a secure Azure foundation that keeps UK data in UK regions.

Frequently asked questions

What does an Azure migration involve?

An Azure migration moves your servers, databases and applications from your own hardware or data centre into Microsoft Azure. It runs in five stages. First an assessment of what you have, then a costed plan, then a secure Azure "landing zone", then migration in tested waves, and finally optimisation to keep running costs down.

How long does an Azure migration take?

Most small-to-mid-sized migrations (up to around 50 servers) take 6–16 weeks from assessment to go-live. Larger estates and full data-centre exits typically take 3–9 months and run in multiple waves.

How much does it cost to migrate to Azure?

For UK organisations, indicative one-off migration costs range from around £5,000–£20,000 for under 10 servers to £60,000+ for 50–200 servers, before any Microsoft funding. Your monthly Azure bill depends on how the workloads are sized and licensed. See our Azure migration cost guide for the detail.

Can Microsoft fund part of my migration?

Often, yes. Microsoft's Azure Accelerate programme can provide partner-delivered funding, Azure credits and expert deployment help for eligible migrations. Eligibility depends on your organisation and the project, and a qualified partner has to nominate you. We check this as part of the free assessment.

Will our data stay in the UK?

Yes, if you want it to. Azure has two UK regions, UK South (London) and UK West (Cardiff), so your workloads, backups and disaster-recovery copies can all stay in the UK.

Do you work with organisations outside London?

Yes. We support organisations across the UK, with dedicated pages for London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds and Bristol. Delivery is remote-first, with on-site workshops when they help.
